The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo has written to the Premier, Stan Mathabatha to establish a commission of inquiry in terms of Section 127(2)(e) of the Constitution to investigate possible corrupt behaviour and mismanagement of funds at Lepelle Northern Water after allegations emerged that its chairperson, Kennedy Tshivhase received a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG and a R1.4 million payment from a contractor.
The party’s Jacques Smalle says it is alleged that the money and a luxury car were given as “gratification” in 2017 by the owner of the company which was awarded a R100 million emergency tender to fix Giyani’s water crisis in 2014 but the cost was astoundingly increased to R3 billion.
To date, this project is incomplete and has cost the life of a six years old who drowned in a ditch that was part of the project.
Furthermore, it is also alleged that Tshivhase received money from two other service providers contracted to Lepelle Northern Water.
