Government is urged to implement anti alcohol abuse laws

# The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance has called on the South African Government to implement laws that are meant to fight the abuse of alcohol.

This follows after Police Minister, Bheki Cele revealed that the abuse of alcohol contributed a lot in the increase of violent crime in the country.

The police also say many murder victims were murdered over weekends which is a time of high alcohol consumption in the country.

Maurice Smithers of SAAPA says the government has worked on a number of laws that if implemented would go a long way in addressing this problem.
