Two municipality officials have appeared at the Bethlehem Regional Court today separately for alleged fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lynda Steyn, says, the Hawks’ National Clean Audit Task Team arrested a 47-year-old acting manager of the Maluti a Phofung Municipality, Mbongiseni Solomon Nyembe for alleged contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) for the period 2014 – 2015.
Nyembe was granted 10-thousand bail, and the case has been postponed to the 13th of June 2019 pending further investigation.
Steyn says meanwhile 46-year-old Seiphatji Mavis Mabula, a Director for Corporate Services within Dihlabeng Municipality also appeared at the same court on Monday facing allegations of defeating the ends of justice.
She says Mabula allegedly continuously interfered with ongoing investigations regarding alleged fraud, corruption and irregular awarding of tenders by the Dihlabeng Municipality.
